A Short Note for #coro_street Ops
As the channel is changing networks to TGnet, I think that now is a good time to restate the principles behind it. These are the reasons that #coro_street is as wonderful a place as it is.

The nicest feature of #coro_street has always been the way that newcomers are treated. As far as I'm concerned, the most important person on the channel is the newest one. I know alot of people have developed close friendships over time, but try to guard against giving the impression that it's a place where strangers have to try to fit in, or get with the conversation. The channel belongs to everyone, as much to the person who's just today worked up enough courage to try IRC for the first thrilling time as to the person who's been coming on for 2 1/2 years.

Please remember what it was like the first time you tried out IRC. If there are alot of people on, the screen just whizzes past, and if nobody takes the time to take an interest, then you feel like an outsider. So please, when you see someone new come on, try to slow things down, pay attention to them and try to make them feel as comfortable as possible. The best way to do that is to talk about Coronation Street with them! That's the one thing you have in common with them, and the reason they are here.

As you chat with someone new, be careful not to pry too much or press them for personal details. Some people are very nervous about things like that, and who knows, maybe they're right. :) It doesn't mean they have something to hide, and there's no reason to be suspicious of them.

Always try to be helpful, and always try to be nice. Like you did on DALnet. :) If you feel that you have to gossip, don't do it on the channel, it turns some people off and is better done privately. If you're stuck for something to talk about, there's always Coronation Street. :))

Of course, if someone comes on and is vulgar, feel free to kick them. But don't kick anyone without a very good reason. Give everyone the benefit of the doubt. If you notice something really terrible, talk to Elaine (_FR_), Peter (peterc), Jacqueline, Floyd (Livingstone), Baz (RBaz) or myself (Greggy) and we'll try to deal with it the best we can. PLEASE don't play kicking games, it is VERY disconcerting to everyone else, especially newcomers. The rule is, don't use your ops unless absolutely necessary.

You are all wonderful people and I know you will continue to treat everyone with respect and goodwill. I love having you on the channel, and as we enter this Brave New World, I look forward to hours and hours of fun and friendship! Take care everyone, and see you on SorceryNet!

Your friend,
Greggy
